and not understood what happened on this day

but i still remember.
i have not ignored what has happened,
although it is hard to believe.
every time i see it,
the planes crash into the towers,
i lose my breath.
i see the people jump out of the burning buildings,
my heart hurts.
i watch the towers come down,
i close my eyes.
but it is real. very real.
it really happened.
yet, our country did not dwindle
we did not fail
we did not show weakness.
we came together
more than ever before.
a terrible reminder that freedom
isn't free.
