being right, and hospitable

a great day starts with english class.
i had to give an oral presentation
on a "style" used in writing.
give and example of the style.
so i use the quote given by marianne williamson in her book A Return To Love:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

its a favorite quote of mine.
my example of style was a hypophora.
a hypophora is when the writer asks a question
and then immediately answers it.
which you can see when the quote says
"we ask ourselves who am i to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually who are you not to be..."
and so on.

my teacher said
it was a great example of the style
but said
"im sorry i have to interupt you
because i love this quote too and it was actually
given by nelson mandela, and marianne williamson
wrongly gets credit for it."
and i said
"well its still from her book.. and i have heard that before
but ive heard it the other way around too"
so she said she was really curious now
and that i should research it.
so i did.
and I WAS RIGHT!
i e-mailed her and told her that ALL the resources i found
said marianne was the original writer of the quote
and nelson was wrongly given credit for saying it
in an inagural speech. (which i also found that he never said it at all)
and i gave her my resources.

AND she e-mailed the whole class and said:

Big cheer (and 10 extra credit pts!) to Aubrey for investigating my erroneous statement today in class. As you can see from the websites listed here, which certainly appear to be legit cites, it WAS Marianne Williamson who wrote the quote used today. Please correct your writer's logs so that we don't perpetuate the wrong information.

Thanks Aubrey for checking this out and my apologies for pointing out YOUR error, when indeed it was mine all along. It is a great statement though, isn't it?

Happy Writing!

HOLLER!!!

so the next event in my day
was a much needed nap. ahh...

then to photography class.
that class feels like a waste because
we have a lab later in the week
and the lab is where i actually learn
me and ann went to class
and we took a quiz.
so good thing we went.
but we didnt read the material for the quiz
BUT we are so amazing we only missed 3 out of 8.
we are such good guessers!

we felt so good about ourselves
that ann treated us to cafe rio.
pork salad and chips and queso.
SOOOOO good!!

my psychology class was just a crack up today
my teacher is always pretty funny.
but here's a good story..
so we take true/false quizes every class
but he is pretty lenient on them
we correct our own
and so people really argue their answers.
today a lot of people were,
so after a few he said
"why dont you just all get 10 points on the quiz since your all bi***in your way through it anyways!"
yes he swore.
but it was HILARIOUS.
they way he said it.
oh my gosh. hahahahhahahahahahah

about an hour into my class
jace calls me
but i text him and say im in class whats up
and then i get a message from him
just wanted to say hi:) presh.
i love him:)

then i get ANOTHER call from a good friend
zack moreno.
same text
im in class!
so i get
i need to ask you a serious question,
do you think i can sleepover,
i lost my keys and think my car got towed.

of course.
ya gotta help out a friend!
just tryin to be hospitable!

so we go back to my place
to the home teachers!
haha they were just great.
ben and fez. but really his name is eli
he is hilarious!!

OH and a swim with annie, brian, jamo, and sammy!
hahahah love these kids. oh and i helped brian out of the pool.
cause he is diseased.

it was a crazy,
but really great day.
let's have more of these...

  1. Dude, I've researched the quote too and had to correct people all the time! I don't have the heart to tell Kim that Nelson Mandela never said it....
